WHY WE BUILT IT
Made by high school students, for students.
From a young age, Judy has always been obsessed with finding out not only “how” things work, but “why.” She was constantly curious about what was happening beneath the surface—how circuits carried electricity, how machines converted energy into motion, and why everyday objects behaved the way they did.
But opportunities to explore those questions through hands-on learning were often difficult to find. Physics and science kits were rare and expensive when they were available, making it difficult to consistently experiment and build. Instead, much of her learning came from disassembling old electronic parts, piecing together projects on her own, and reading textbooks to understand the science behind what she found.
Moreover, since most students in the U.S. don’t start taking physics until their junior or senior year of high school (if they take it at all) exposure often comes far too late. Teachers have to scramble to cover all the necessary material through lectures, leaving little time for experiments or for students to have those “a-ha” moments that make physics click. Judy set out to address both of these problems.
Finding summer camps and local events too limited and infrequent, she began compiling the experiments, activities, and concepts she wished more students could experience into a kit that makes physics simple, hands-on, and accessible to everyone. Learn more about how PhysiXplore Lab began →
